Amplify Is Cool

We’re enjoying Amplify.com, check us out at: http://wellhunggeeks.amplify.com/

The site has launched “CLOGS”, who needs a blog when you can have a Clip Log?

It plays directly into our re-mix culture. There is so much available content with the Internet that having a spot to distill it to relevant pieces of information is HUGE.

The interesting thing we’re watching for is whether this further reduces and niches the way people get news. If we follow clogs of people who are just like us, who are editing in 2 ways:

1st: the type of information that they read.

2nd: the information within that information that they share.

It’s a genius service, but it has some cultural risks. How will we broaden our exposure to differing viewpoints on an ongoing basis?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot

buffy_logo_0001

With the big success of “Twilight,” and the upcoming season 2 of True Blood, sources say Hollywood is going to attempt a remake of Buffy the Vampire. For the series that started as a movie, which then became a tv show, and now will get a “Star Trek” reboot, just shows that Hollywood is never about fresh ideas, it’s always about money.

Reports say, Fran and Rubel Kuzui, who directed the original movie, and Kaz Kazui bought the rights to Buffy in 1992 and now plan to make a new film The Kazuis were credited as executive producers on Buffy the TV show as they owned the rights, but are reportedly not planning to include any of the Vampire Slayer’s supporting characters or sidekicks from the hit show in the movie remake.

The remake will go ahead sans Joss Whedon, which has buffy fans wondering how good would this tent pole film be without Xander, Willow, Giles, Angel, Spike and the rest of Buffy’s gang.  While the slogan “into every generation a slayer is born”  opens the door for a completely new reincarnation of Buffy, one would guess they are going to try and make it darker, leaner, and meaner. Of course they may want to cast Megan Fox, but she’s already signed off for the Fanthom movie.

Rushkoff on Obama & Cyberwar

RT @rushkoff My first piece on Daily Beast: Obama and CyberWar! http://bit.ly/Eajsy

“Obama’s Cyberwar Misfires” by Douglas Rushkoff

Excerpts:

Because of the net’s decentralized nature, cyber warfare is less like an artillery battle than it is like hand-to-hand combat.

The United States will be surpassed in cyber skills within a single generation. The best of our kids design video games; the Indians, Chinese, and Russians’ kids write the code on which those games run.
